Yeoman Warders / Beefeaters
The Queen's Body Guard - the Yeomen of the Guard
Woodlands Junior School is in the south-east corner of England

Yeomen Warders are the colourfully-dressed bodyguards on duty at the Tower of London. They are best known for their scarlet and gold dress uniforms which date from 1552 and are worn on state occasions.

The Yeomen Warders are popularly known as the Beefeaters.

The Tower of London has been a royal palace and fortress for over 900 years, and a Royal Guard - usually provided by the Foot Guards - mounts on Tower Green every day at noon.

A ceremonial guard is provided by the Yeomen Warders.

One of their main ceremonial functions is the daily Ceremony of the Keys.
A ceremony where the gates of the Tower of London are secured each night shortly before 10.00 pm by the Chief Yeoman Warder escorted by an armed guard of four men.

Members of the public can attend the Ceremony of the Keys at the Tower of London. Applications should be made in writing, at least two months in advance, to:
