In some homes, evergreen trees are decorated with cotton balls to make them look like the snow found on the trees in the forests of the Northern Hemisphere.

(We live in the Northern Hemisphere too. We have not had a white Christmas for many years)

sun"Feliz Navidad" means "Merry Christmas" in Argentina.

tree Argentina has a summer time Christmas.

tree Argentine kids leave their real shoes out by the tree for Father Christmas (Santa). They do not leave cookies or milk.

treeHouses are decorated in red and white garlands.

The Christmas tree is decorated with coloured lights and ornaments. Father Christmas is placed on top.

treeChristmas is celebrated on Christmas eve with a large meal served at around midnight. Christmas presents are open after the meal.

tree Many families have a picnic or barbecue as their Christmas meal to take advantage of the lovely weather.

For Christmas dinner they have pig or a roast peacock and a great variety of dishes.

tree For pudding (desert) they have fruit cocktail or "Pan Dulce" (sweet bread).

kingsOn 5th January, children in Argentina place their shoes underneath the Christmas tree or beside their beds, in hope that the three kings (Magi) will leave gifts in them as they pass by on their way to visit the Christ child.

Children also leave hay and water outside the house for the horses of the three kings.
