Sending an e-mail
When you are
talking to someone on the telephone it is easy to know whether
they are happy or sad by the tone of their voice. When you are
sending a message whether by e-mail or letter, it is hard to
show an emotion (other than x x at the end of your letter!).
Emoticons
One way of showing
emotion on the Net is to use a code of little pictures called
smileys or emoticons. People are also using this when sending
text messages on their mobile phones. They are made up of keyboard
characters. Tip your head to the left as you look at them.
