 Internet Addresses

With millions of people using the Net each day, there are bound to be some who misuse it. This page has some useful guidelines that will help make the Net a safe place for you to surf.

Don't give your e-mail address, name, address or telephone number to strangers without the permission of your parents/guardian.
Never open an attached file sent with an e-mail. Ask your parents or guardian first, as it may contain a virus.
Tell your parent or guardian right away if you come across any information that makes you feel uncomfortable.
Do not enter contests without asking your parents first.
Do not give out your Internet passwords to anyone (even best friends), other than your parents.
Always treat others on the Internet the way you want to be treated.
Do not go to any chatrooms or websites not approved of by your parents/guardians.
Never download anything from the Net without your parents/guardians permission. It may contain a virus.

Blocking/ Filtering Software

Some Internet Service Providers (ISP) have programmes that restricts access to sites inappropriate for children. If your ISP doesn't, several software programs exist that aid parents in controlling the Internet content available to their children.

Here are a few:
 BrowseSafe  KidSafe Explorer
 CleanWeb  NetNanny
 Cyber Patrol  NetRated
 Family Connect  Surf Watch
