Making a School Website

You are here: Homepage > Site Map > Making a website kent web for students

Making web sites is a rewarding experience for both students and educators. It is similar to publishing a book, though the results are instant and you don't have a publisher breathing down your neck saying your work isn't good enough. Our web sites receive thousands of visitors per week from over a hundred countries around the world.

Anyone can publish on the internet after learning a few basic skills. So can you! After receiving numerous enquiries about how to make web sites, we decided to put a section together where we could share with people some of our knowledge.

What you will find on this page are links to basic lessons for web site making together with resources for webmasters. We have also included some of the ways we use the internet at school

MAKING WEB SITES
Introduction: We started publishing on the internet back in 1999. Read about our early experiences.
Step 1: Getting Started. What are the first stages in creating a school website?
Step 2: HTML We use a number of different programs to make web sites.
Step 3: Graphic Programs. These are the programs we use to make banners, animated graphics and to make our pictures look better.
Step 4: Web Hosting. In order for other people to see your web site you need to put your pages onto a server which is accessible 24 hours a day.
Step 5: FTP Programs. Once you have made a web site, you next need to upload them onto the internet.
Step 6: Domain Name. This is the address people use to find you on the internet. Choosing a name which is easy to spell and remember is very important.
Step 7: Promoting. Thinking ' if you build it they will' come isn't true. Learn about ways to promote your web site on the internet.
Examples: Probably the best way to learn is to take a look at other web sites.
